Henry Cluney playing guitar and singing

Henry Cluney, ex of the Stiff Little Fingers and influential on the punk scene, gives us his top 10 albums list. Part one is here…

John Robb takes us through the second half of the list which features more T.Rex, Black Sabbath and Metallica.

6. Ghost of an American Airman ‘Life Under Giants’

One of those bands that fall between the cracks, Ghost Of An American Airman are often spoken about in hushed tones of reverence by those that know. The Irish band had the songs but never got the breaks.

‘They should have been huge. One of the best singers ever and one of Belfasts best bands’

7. Black Sabbath ‘Black Sabbath’

One of those rare bands that invented a whole musical genre on their own. Black Sabbath still set the standard to this day with their deceptively simple and brilliantly dark music.

‘The original and never bettered. This was recorded in one day and people take months now for lesser efforts.’

8. T.Rex ‘Electric Warrior’

One of those rare albums where every track sounds like a single – this was Marc Bolan at the peak of his powers – with a perfect slapback production from Tony Visconti and his voice at a bleating perfection. This was T.Rex in their pomp and one of the greatest pop records ever made.

‘Sorry, I had to put another one in.’

9. Metallica ‘Master Of Puppets’

Another one of the Big Four of thrash and the ones that broke past the mainstream, into one of those rare places where there is some kind of super league of bands, Metallica took the grumbling riffola into the super stadiums.

‘…back when Metallica really mattered. I have always been a big metal fan and this hits the spot….

10. Ozzie Osbourne ‘Blizzard Of Oz’ featuring Randy Rhoads on guitar

The first solo album from the then estranged Black Sabbath frontman and the one that set him up for his outrageously (on every level) solo career.

‘…great songs and a brilliant comeback.still sings like a goat tho!’
